Thoughts from a Pastor
Not to us, Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory (Psalm 115:1)
What is your overriding desire when you pray to God? Is it that he will hear and answer your specific prayer? Or that he will bring glory to his name?
When God doesn’t seem to be doing what we think he should be doing, we can wrongly conclude that he has closed his ears to us. But Psalm 115:3 tells us he does whatever he pleases, and what pleases him is his glory (v. 1).
God always knows what brings him the greatest glory. And his glory always comes as a result of - and in harmony with - his enduring love and faithfulness (v. 1). At the very beginning of Psalm 115 we are reminded that the fount of all blessing is the unfailing love of God. It is that glorious truth which fuels our hope and trust in him.
As Christians, we should desire the glory of God above all else. True blessings come only when our Lord is exalted in our worshipful lives.
Every blessing
