Wantage Baptist Church is blessed with an abundance of young people, all lovingly cared for. We ensure that everyone working with children are DBS checked (formerly CRB) and have two dedicated Child Protection Co-ordinators within the church. If you’d like more information on this, we’d be pleased to answer any of your questions.
At the start of each service, the children either stay with their parents or join some of the youngsters at the front of the Church. We usually have an interactive children’s talk and sitting at the front can help them be more involved. Ages 3-11s then head to the hall where we continue to meet for a while longer before going off to different areas.
We have a fantastic creche facility, with lots of toys and a dedicated team of helpers. If you’d like to stay with your child, that’s absolutely fine.
Children learn simple bible stories in a fun, interactive way and are given a leaflet about the story to colour in and glue if they would like to and take home. Afterwards, if there is any spare time, the children can relax by playing with toys and doing jigsaws, learning to interact with one another. They can also have a light refreshment. This class is designed to set a good foundation to Sunday School so the children feel safe, happy and enjoy coming.
A fun class where all children – no matter what their background or interests – will feel part of it. Children are very welcome to come as and when they can and visiting families are always welcome.
There are some times during the year when we all the children’s groups stay together, often to either work on a specific project(Christmas performance) or to create some wonderful pieces of craft. These are fun times too and is a good way of the children getting to know each other and the helpers better.
The young people all play an active role in the life of the church and newcomers will be made to feel right at home. All the lessons are bible centred and typically follow the Scripture Union workbooks. We emphasise the importance of a regular prayer time, and we also make sure the children have fun and time to talk about their lives.
We use a variety of teaching methods to bring the bible to life, including scenarios and games. We encourage discussion, in order to tackle the issues most relevant to teenagers today.
